Natural cycle IVF

Natural Cycle IVF works in sync with your menstrual cycle to collect the egg that has been naturally selected by your body

What is Natural Cycle IVF?

Natural Cycle IVF is a treatment plan which does not involve the use of hormone stimulating drugs. Instead, the intention is to collect the single egg which is produced as part of your natural menstrual cycle. The treatment does however involve one HCG injection prior to egg collection. It’s important for patients to understand that often Natural Cycle IVF is unsuccessful because of one of the following reasons:

  • No egg is found
  • The egg is released by the body before egg collection
  • The egg is not mature enough for fertilisation

How does it work?

Natural Cycle IVF involves egg collection aligned with your natural menstrual cycle; there are no ovarian stimulation drugs involved. It works in sync with your menstrual cycle to collect the egg which has been naturally selected by your body. During treatment, our expert practitioners use advanced ultrasound technology to monitor your cycle and check the blood supply to the naturally developing follicle on your ovary. The HCG injection is required to cause ovulation and the egg is collected using the same technique used in conventional IVF. Fertilisation of the egg with your husband’s sperm and embryo transfer follow the same process as conventional IVF.

Who is Natural Cycle IVF for?

Natural Cycle IVF is recommended for women who:

  • Are still ovulating and wish to avoid IVF stimulation drugs
  • Do not respond well to hormone stimulation
  • Have low ovarian reserve (few eggs)
  • Women who have a history of hormone-dependent cancers
